Read this!

Margaret Campbell outs me as the lame-ass I am (I'm a big baby about going to shows alone) in her great first piece for HowWasTheShow.com about The Roots at First Avenue last week.

So Says:

Chris Riemenschneider in this article from yesterday. A South By Southwest final replay.

More HERE while Jon Bream posts the setlist from the Christina Aguilera concert last night. Yeah, I don't really care about the Aguilera, but I like that Jon Bream. Gotta say.

(edit: that was a bad link to the Strib's Pop Life blog . Oops. It's all better now, except Riemenschneider has a typo on there today regarding the new Modest Mouse album.)

HowWasTheShow has a bunch of SXSW coverage going on right now. It's supremely awesome, even I get to join in, as I interview a bunch of locals who are undoubtably having the best time at this very moment. (And that I also created that illustration with my mad Microsoft Paint skillz)

Hold your horses, the weekend starts soon. I just want to let people who actually still pinch some of us not wearing green on St. Paddy's day to know that I don't respond well to that... don't say I didn't warn you.

See everyone at the Hoot 'o Nanny tonight!

A Few Words Before I End My Day

**Amy Winehouse, I love you. I don't know what you did with the body of that old Black Soul songstress that you killed and stole the voice from all Sylar like, and I don't care. You're captivatingly rock-awesome. You go ahead and drink all you want. Just don't die on us, alright?

**Don't let internet forums make you listen to the New Kids on the Block. It's general badness and includes unnatural dance interludes that the Pied Piper of Hamelin will make you go along with.

**I'm making a St. Patrick's Day mix, but I don't know why. I don't really care about the holiday, I'm not Irish. I just love themes. For all you Rhapsody subscribers, I will post the playlist.

Second post in one day? Whoa!

I wrote a review about the Girl Talk show at the Varsity a while back, and when I was looking on the Varsity website today I saw that they had a review on there from the show.

Except it wasn't my review, it was done by (and I can only assume this is the same person) this kid I used to babysit when I was in high school (Fergus Falls Senior High, class of 1997.)

His name is Carl Carpenter, and his review is about 482 times better than mine. SMALL WORLD, I tell you...

My (not so) Secret Shame

Ok, so there are a lot of pissed off people (sample) because of this 200 "Definitive" Albums list recently unleashed upon the world by NARM, the National Association of Recording Merchandisers. I was mildly upset over this too, until I started to think about it a little more. These are records that have SOLD a lot of copies, and the list was put out by people who SELL them. Or promote their sale, whatevs.
In the past, for example, every list issue put out by my favorite questionable and reliable music magazines, I find large amounts of fault with them. Mostly because I figure these are put out by experts, people who should know a thing or two about the quality and content. Truth is, you can't please everyone, and most of all, you can't make any music obsessive happy with a list. Especially with a list that includes Kenny G, Celine Dion and Linkin Park in it's top 100.

And after a l'il rant about how this list isn't that big of a deal i give you this...

THE GREASE SOUNDTRACK AT #37?! THAT'S BULLSHIT!!

Baby's First Hoot

After months of wanting to go to a Hootenanny (but sitting at home thinking about wanting to be there) Andrea rescued me from myself and to the basement of Java Jack's.

It was awesome - such a comfortable and friendly atmosphere, and I have to say that attending this regularly might be good for my social anxiety and my soul. There was a great selection of Eclectone artists there: Martin Devaney of course, JoAnna James, the birthday boy Dan Israel and the amazing Chris Perricelli. Don't forget Jim Walsh, though. (I shook his hand!!!Dude!)

And Stook closed out the night with "A Song is More Than Just a Song" and it was perfect and there was swooning involved...

Happy Weekend to the three of you that read my blog!! Enjoy the sunshine!

HowWasTheShow on Minneapoliscast.com

That's right, there's a How Was The Show Podcast on Minneapoliscast.com. You can hear me say "You know" with my thick Minnesotan accent while I talk about Josh Aran's cover of Hysteria by Def Leppard (beautiful, beautiful job) while everyone sounds totally awesome and professional. It's super fun and you WILL listen to it....

Pop Candy being one of my favorite blogs, I stumbled upon this kick-ass interview with one of my heroes, Greil Marcus. Read it, read it, read it!!!

From the Weirdest Dream Ever department...

So last night I had the weirdest dream. I was staying in this 4-Star hotel or something and I remember I was getting ready for something. And there was a knock on my door and it was Iggy Pop. I was not fazed by this at all. I remember we hugged and then we left. We were running through the halls of his nice hotel and I vividly remember we were holding hands. And then the next thing I remember is that we're at this restaurant - it's all dark wood and dimly lit inside and i remember the light from outside. It was that late-afternoon, sort-of fall light. I don't remember what we talked about, but I just remember whatever we were saying, we were close. We must have been on a date or something, because I remember I must have saw Jesse (my boyfriend) somewhere because I ran out. And I just remember playing it super cool and us walking away, like we were supposed to meet. We went home (we live together) and I called the restaurant and asked someone if "Iggy" was still there waiting for me. And I was passing by again before I woke up, and he was no longer sitting in the spot where we were.

Weird. I have never had a thing for Iggy Pop. I mean, I love him as a musician, but I can't say that I've ever wanted to run hand-in-hand with him in hotel hallways.
