My Saturday at Christenson's Big V's

Just as I was about to stay in and hit the hay early for a second night in a row, I ended up running over to Big V's to see Dance Band. I missed the Best Friends Forever set earlier, and that was a sad and unfortunate occurrence. I never end up seeing a full set of theirs, and I never get to hear "My Head in Front of Your Head," Bri's ode of love to Abraham Lincoln.

However, I kinda forgot all about that, pretty much as soon as I walked in the door and Olympia's Scream Club was busy owning the stage.

I was completely sucked into their dance/rap/electro hustle. I hoped they were from Minneapolis, but I sadly knew that they couldn't be. With names like Cindy Wonderful and Sarah Adorable, these ladies couldn't help but charm the crowd and make them dance their pants off, as the lead singer of local outfit Dance Band, would do about forty minutes later.

Dance Band

These guys have this interesting, dare i say, weird Indie Disco thing going on. It'd make Har Mar Superstar proud and jealous of our native Minneapolitans. Spending the majority of their set sweaty and half-naked, their songs were funny, catchy and extremely danceable. I'm looking forward to seeing what their designer puts them in when they play Voltage this year. Well, basically I'm just looking forward to more. These guys only have a single out. I can't wait to get my hands on a full-length album to dance to whenever I feel like it.

It was just one of those nights that you are supremely glad you ventured out.

I would love to say that I ran out of work today, jumping and skipping, while fighting back tears of joy. Well, figuratively, I did. What a long week! So much to look forward to this weekend. Like the launch of the newly redesigned and obviously fabulous How Was The Show site this weekend. I'm a big fan of the new banner. And frankly, I don't know if I should be posting this before it's big reveal... hmmm... am I living dangerously?

Good God, I haven't blogged for a long time. But let's just put that past us right now and get down to it. Like where to go this weekend in order to make the most of the short time we have to be workplace-free.

Friday - First and foremost, not at my house. While Dungeons and Dragons is completely Rock and Roll, I'm thinking actual Rock and Roll. Dance Band, So It Goes and TV Sound at the Entry tonight being a popular choice, along with the St. Pauli Grla CD Release Party over at Big V's with Birthday Suits, In Defense, The Deaf & Brown.

Saturday - I'm putting all my money down on one show. The Bee Gees Tribute show over at the Turf Club. You can't go wrong. Indie Soup is presenting this Pop For Charity show. Here's a little myspace blog entry that summarizes it. Yes, I'm just that lazy. I'm awful. My love for the Gibb brothers knows no bounds. I keep thinking of who's going to do what? Very exciting stuff, I tell ya. But with a mind-blowing lineup as they have assembled...
